Police in the hunt for an unknown number of suspects who killed taxi boss in Midrand

Midrand Police Station Commander Brigadier Molefi David Tsotsotso said police are hot on the heels of the suspects who fled the scene in a blue Toyota Corolla.

Midrand Police are still on the hunt for an unknown number of suspects who ambushed and killed a taxi boss, Xolani Ngubane, in Noordwyk last week.

Ngubane (55) was killed in a hail of bullets while driving on Liebenberg Road on September 16, around 14:45.
He was affiliated with the Alexandra Taxi Association.

The suspects, who were driving a blue Toyota Corolla, fled the scene after the shooting and remain at large.

Midrand Police Station commander Brigadier Molefi David Tsotsotso said Ngubane was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and upper body.

“There were about 80 bullet holes on the victim’s vehicle. The victim was in the driver’s seat with multiple gunshot wounds to his head and body.

Emer-G-Med paramedics declared him dead at the scene. Approximately 40 cartridges were found on the scene. However, the type of firearm used could not be determined,” said Tsotsotso.

He added that the Taxi Violent Unit had also been informed to probe if the incident was related to taxi violence.

At the time of his killing, Ngubane was driving a white Toyota Fortuner.
