Health Emporium in Halfway House is plagued with illegal littering and other illegal activities

Illegal activities are believed to be negatively affecting the Health Emporium and other businesses in Halfway House.

Despite the postponement of the Halfway House Development Forum (HHDF) meeting, forum co-founder Dr Andrew Jacovides has expressed dissatisfaction with illegal littering and other activities around the Health Emporium Centre.

The meeting, which is held monthly, aims to find solutions to lawlessness in Halfway House, was postponed on October 2 due to poor attendance.

Speaking to Midrand Reporter, Jacovides, who is the owner of Midrand Medical Centre, said authorities and relevant entities have to be proactive when addressing illegal-related issues.

“We have done our bit towards trying to clean our area up. And if the law were properly enforced, then they [perpetrators] would think twice about illegal activities such as cars and taxis just stopping wherever they like, including in the middle of the road,” said Jacovides.

He believes that if there were a dedicated patrol, enforcing the law and the city by-laws, then this type of behaviour would stop.

Jacovides added that the mess around the Emporium and Halfway House affects everybody, including people coming to support local businesses.
