Mayor intervenes after animosity between Kanana residents and their councillor
Johannesburg Mayor Sello Dada Morero says two meetings in Ward 80 were marred by disputes in October, leading to him actively addressing the issues that have formed between the residents and councillor Melody Hlatshwayo.
In the midst of animosity between the Ward 80 councillor Melody Hlatshwayo and the residents, Johannesburg Mayor Sello Dada Morero said they are actively addressing the issues affecting the Kanana community.
Morero said they were engaging the community through the Citizens Relations and Urban Management multidisciplinary team to find common ground.
This follows a broken relationship between Hlatshwayo and disgruntled residents, who are accusing Hlatshwayo of not bringing service delivery to the ward.
Morero, through his spokesperson, said, additionally, the city has directly involved leadership across Greater Ivory Park, including MMCs Jack Sekwaila and Mlungisi Mabaso, who have been approved by the executive mayor to resolve the electricity issues.

“The last meetings, convened by the ward councillor, took place on October 4 and 17, involving Human Settlements, City Power, and the Housing Development Agency. We are reliably informed that these meetings were marked by disputes.”
Midrand Reporter met with the residents of Kanana in Rabie Ridge on October 23, where they accused Hlatshwayo of allegedly pleading with the mayor, during the recent high impact service delivery event held on October 14 in Wards 80, 92, 110, and 111, not to come to her ward, in a bid to hide the lack of service delivery.
Morero said the city’s leadership will attend to every community without exception.
