MEC closes scrap yard amid crack down on Illegal dumping in Rabie Ridge

BREAKING NEWS: A scrap yard in Rabie Ridge was shut down on January 13 following an oversight visit by Gauteng MEC for Environment Ewan Botha, who was inspecting persistent illegal dumping sites in the area.

The visit comes amid growing frustration from residents, as Rabie Ridge has long been plagued by illegal dumping, which has not only degraded the environment; it has posed serious health and safety risks to the community. During the inspection, the MEC identified the scrap yard as operating in contravention of environmental regulations and ordered its immediate closure.
