Principal pleads for help after several break-ins at Space Age Independent School
Learning has been affected as break-ins continue, with the principal urging the community and authorities to act.
Space Age Independent School has faced yet another break-in, and no solution has been put in place.
With numerous cases opened no suspects have been apprehended and the number of break-ins into the school has increased.
The most recent break-ins took place on March 7 and 11, where the school’s solar power system was completely removed from the principal’s office and the school’s transport tyres were also removed.

Losing school computers, solar power systems, and transport tyres constantly sets back the school’s learning and progress. This means that the school goes through financial distress with not a lot of help as this is a private school.

According to principal Farai Mukwavaya the school has had no breaks from crime, making them a target since last year.
“You know this is heart breaking, because just last weekend our learners were supposed to leave for a netball trip and this trip had to be postponed because we didn’t have transport, or even a backup plan for them. I truly struggle to understand why people can come and break into a school.

This is a place that builds future leaders and nothing like this should even be happening.”
The school has had to put subjects like Computer Applications Technology on pause following the biggest break-in, where computers were stolen from the computer lab last year in the first term.
Other incidents also include learners being robbed off their phones just outside the school’s gate, with learners left to deal with the trauma of these violent acts.

The principal is asking the police, the government, the community, parents, and anybody else who can lend a hand, to attempt to support the school.
“I want to kindly ask that the police help us, because ever since last year, we have been opening cases, but we haven’t heard of any developments. I would also like to ask for help from the parents, the community, and the government, if possible, because we don’t know what to do anymore, because have all security systems put in place but still the school is not safe.”
