Olifantsfontein Primary School learners graduate with financial literacy skills through SAIA-sponsored MoneyTime programme
The programme culminated in a graduation ceremony where participants were awarded medals and certificates, recognising them as official MoneyTime Champions.
Grade 7 learners from Olifantsfontein Primary School have completed the innovative MoneyTime financial literacy programme.
The programme equipped them with essential personal finance knowledge and tools for financial success. Supported by The South African Insurance Association (SAIA) through its Consumer Education Fund, the 15-week programme covered 30 modules on topics such as budgeting, saving, banking, career exploration, and investing.
The school management and teachers positively received the programme, which saw higher-than-expected participation from learners. This culminated in a graduation ceremony where participants were awarded medals and certificates, recognising them as official MoneyTime Champions.

MoneyTime, part of the MyLife Wealth Creator platform, teaches foundational financial concepts through engaging lessons and a money management game.
Marcia Motsepa, one of the graduates, said, “MoneyTime has taught us valuable lessons that we will carry with us throughout our lives. It is more than just learning about money, it is about making smart choices, planning for the future, and understanding the power of saving and investing
“I now see money as a tool to create opportunities and security for myself and my family…This programme has made me feel more confident and empowered to take control of my financial future.”
The programme’s success is evident in its results – all 242 learners participated in scheduled computer lab sessions and voluntary lunch sessions. Every learner completed the first 11 modules, with 135 finishing all 30. The programme achieved a remarkable 31% improvement in financial literacy, with an average class score of 67%.

Johan Olivier, managing director of MyLife remarked, “These young learners have embraced financial education with curiosity and enthusiasm, and we are pleased with their performance…. Together with SAIA, we are excited to bring MoneyTime to more schools and communities.”
Zanele Gigaba, SAIA transformation manager noted that their partnership with MyLife filled a critical gap by equipping young people with the tools to navigate financial challenges.
“MoneyTime aligns with SAIA’s goals under the Financial Sector Charter and offers an engaging platform for young learners,” said Gigaba.
Themba Palagangwe, SAIA governance and transformation general manager, emphasised that the programme was an incredible opportunity for youth to build foundational financial knowledge that would benefit them throughout their lives.
With strong support from learners, educators, and parents, SAIA, MyLife, and the school community are committed to expanding this programme, ensuring more learners have the opportunity to build essential financial skills.
