JW urges residents to refrain from disposing of foreign objects in sewerage lines after another blockage
Johannesburg Water says taking care of the sewerage system, and not disposing of foreign items in it, is essential for ensuring smooth and efficient operation.
Johannesburg Water (JW) appeals to residents to exercise caution and refrain from disposing of foreign objects into the sewerage system.
This reminder comes in light of the recent incident on February 12, when the sewerage line on Springwell Avenue blocked once again, just a few weeks after it had previously undergone repairs.
Upon receiving reports of the blockage, JW responded promptly, on the same day, to address the issue and initiate the repairs needed to resolve the blockage.

However, many residents have expressed their frustration, noting that this problem, with the sewerage system getting blocked, has been a recurring issue in the area.
According to JW spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala, upon investigations, it was determined that the blockage was primarily caused by foreign objects being improperly discarded into the sewerage infrastructure.

She emphasised that the co-operation of the community is vital in maintaining the integrity of the sewerage system.
“We kindly urge all customers to avoid disposing of such objects in our sewerage lines, to help prevent similar issues from occurring in the future,” said Shabalala.
“Taking care of our sewerage system is essential for ensuring smooth and efficient operation.”
