Society for Animals in Distress CEO uses Mrs SA to push humane education
Meg Harvey, who finished in the top 10 of the Mrs South Africa pageant, said she will use the platform she’s been given to focus on animal welfare and crime prevention through humane education.
Following her placement as a top 10 finalist in the Mrs South Africa 2025 competition, humanitarian leader and Society for Animals in Distress CEO Meg Harvey is directing her national visibility toward two of South Africa’s most pressing challenges.
Harvey said she will now redirect her attention to animal welfare and crime prevention through humane education, after witnessing firsthand how untreated animal suffering, community violence, and social instability are interconnected.

Strengthened by her national platform and the momentum of Mrs South Africa, she is using her voice to champion a compassion-first model for safer, healthier communities.
Harvey believes they cannot address South Africa’s crime problem without addressing compassion. “The research is clear: Cruelty to animals is one of the earliest predictors of violence in society.
If we want safer communities, we must teach empathy early, consistently, and creatively – starting with our children.”

• Partnerships that combine animal welfare, public health, and crime reduction, and
