Tiny scientists tackle natural disasters at Summerhill Nursery

Summerhill’s budding scientists proudly showed off their projects as they explored the wonders of natural disasters.

Summerhill School SA’s Grade 0 learners proved that curiosity starts young as they confidently took on the world of Natural Disasters at this year’s exciting science fair.

The nursery young learners presented colourful and imaginative projects, on April 2, on topics ranging from volcanoes and tornadoes to droughts, floods, and earthquakes.

Through hands-on experiments, visual displays, and lively explanations, the children demonstrated an early understanding of how the planet works.

Adding to the excitement of the day, the Grade 0 learners were joined by Summerhill College matriculants, who took time to view the projects and engage with the budding scientists.

Summerhill College matriculant and head boy Rodney Eymann said he was impressed by the effort and enthusiasm shown by the young learners.

“I have seen many beautiful projects. All have to do with droughts, flooding, all types of disasters, and the kids are very excited about their projects.”

School prefect for sports and matriculant Rileigh Makhele also praised the learners for the hard work put into their presentations.

Grade 0 head Caressa Govender said the science fair plays an important role in the learners’ development, especially as Grade 0 marks their first formal year of schooling.
