Boulders’ potholes worsen

Potholes worsen around the Boulders taxi rank during the month-long wait for scheduled repairs by the JRA.

Taxi drivers operating at the Boulders taxi rank said the worsening conditions of potholes continue to make it hard for them to drive on the roads around the rank.

Frustrations among road users continue to rise after concerns were raised with the JRA regarding the potholes on Market Street and Old Pretoria Main Road around the Boulders taxi rank.

The publication contacted JRA regarding the potholes on March 18, and they responded by saying repairs are scheduled in April.

However, the month is almost coming to an end, and yet the JRA has not started on the repairs.

Taxi drivers said the potholes are damaging their vehicles, and are slowing down traffic around the busy rank during peak hours.

Taxi driver Eric Maseko said, “Honestly, these roads are just bad.

I mean, recently, one of our taxis drove into a pothole, and when it’s raining, this problem becomes worse because the potholes get flooded with water, which causes us to struggle with driving, and some of our taxis drive into the holes.

At this point, listening to what the JRA is saying is something we’ve stopped doing because it’s like they don’t see how serious this is.”

JRA was contacted again on April 17, asking about the scheduled repairs.

A response was received on April 20 from JRA communications specialist, Mosa Makhalima, saying she has checked with the depot and is awaiting a response.
