Nova Pioneer Midrand campus hosts exciting U15 basketball showcase

Nova Pioneer Midrand Secondary hosted an exciting day of U15 basketball as Future Nation Schools Lyndhurst and Sandton School Group joined the action.

Competition was fierce, but so was the sportsmanship as three schools came together for an afternoon dedicated to developing young basketball talent at Nova Pioneer Midrand Secondary on June 25.

Learners from Nova Pioneer, Future Nation Schools Lyndhurst, and Sandton School Group displayed skill, determination, and teamwork throughout a series of U15 friendly matches designed to prepare players for future inter-school competition.

The fixture formed part of the school’s efforts to strengthen relationships with neighbouring schools while providing young players with valuable competitive match experience.

The opening encounter saw Nova Pioneer’s U15 boys take on Sandton School Group in a fast-paced and closely contested match.

Throughout the encounters, players displayed impressive determination, testing new skills, executing slick ball movement, and attempting spectacular dunks whenever the opportunity presented itself during the two-quarter contest.

The friendly atmosphere did little to dampen the competitive spirit, with all teams giving their all until the final whistle.

Nova Pioneer SA regional sports coordinator, Simphiwe Ntlatleng, said the event highlighted the steady growth of the school’s basketball programme, which is still in the early stages of building its inter-school competition calendar.

“We’re here today [June 25] at Nova Pioneer Midrand. As you can see, our teams are playing U15 and open basketball friendlies against Sandton School, and we also have Future Nation Schools Lyndhurst participating,” said Ntlatleng.

“We’ve just watched the first match between Nova Pioneer and Sandton School. Our U15 boys played really well, and the game was highly competitive. Considering that this is only our second year competing against established schools, we are very pleased with the progress the boys have made.

“We’re looking forward to many more competitions, and we’d like to invite more schools to come and join us here at Nova Pioneer Midrand.”

Sandton School Group representative Tiego Matsoso said the fixture was about more than just the final score, offering learners an opportunity to grow both on and off the court.

“I think it’s a great opportunity to let the boys play a game they love, spend an afternoon together, and enjoy themselves,” said Matsoso.

“They have a lot of passion for basketball, and we’re grateful to Nova Pioneer for inviting us to be part of this fixture.”
