Joburgers enjoy a movie outdoors

MIDRAND – Co-founder of the Park-In Experince said people could expect more music, performances, more local movies as well as an afternoon market.

Locals were entertained, safely, at Park-In Experience’s fourth event at Mall of Africa on September 17.

In the evening, visitors were treated to music by local DJs and a comedy session before the movie for the night was aired.

Ofentse Kuapane said the experience was wonderful and he enjoyed himself. “The vibe and ambience are great, people are having fun. I like the concept because it is very considerate of the fact that we are in the middle of a pandemic,” he added.

Kuapane said, unlike being indoors all the time, such an outdoor event gave him peace of mind, especially with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Co-founder of the Park-In Experience Lerato Maunatlala said the event came about because of the Covid-19 lockdown. “We needed an event that would be good enough for social distancing. So you stay in your car and you do not get to connect with people outside it.”

She explained that as visitors came in to the park, they were directed as to which frequency they would be using on the night. They could park their cars and absorb the local content through a transmitter.

Maunatlala said, going forward, they would have an afternoon market and entertainment in the form of music, comedians, and performances. “All our movies are local movies, we do not play international content. This is our fourth event but building on it, it is going to be one of those events where you get everything.”

She concluded that the event will take place monthly.
