Audi also wants to build a bakkie

All that we can hope for is that Mercedes hits it out of the park, and Audi is forced to build a competing bakkie of its own.


The saying “if you can’t beat them, join them” also applies to car manufacturers.

When we first heard the rumours that Mercedes-Benz was building a pickup truck, we loved the idea, but we didn’t think it would happen, but it seems the German carmaker is hard at work readying its bakkie likely to carry the name GLT.

But competition seems to gain momentum, as Audi is starting to consider whether building a bakkie makes sense or not.

In an interview with Australian website CarAdvice, Audi Australia managing director Andrew Doyle said that no product has been confirmed, but that there could be a market.

We are keeping our eyes open for more emerging information, but if Audi decides to build one, it will likely ride on the latest Q7 platform. The Audi bakkie will be aimed at challenging the Volkswagen Amarok, Ford Range and Toyota Hilux.
