Barberton songbird Phumla Music to release new solo album

The album will be titled ‘Makhonjwa’ in celebration of the musician's home town and the Makhonjwa Mountains.

The award-winning musician, Phumla Nkomo, better known as Phumla Music, is set to release her solo album, Makhonjwa, anticipatedly in June.

She believes the album will represent her and embraces her home in Umjindi in Barberton, which is also the home of the World Heritage Site, the Makhonjwa Mountains.

The singer-songwriter announced this during her intimate album listening session at Trends Café in Mbombela on Saturday April 6. “This album will be a thank-you gift to the people who appreciate my music. It is also a celebration of my music journey, and I cannot wait until it is released. It will showcase my music journey from the beginning, when I just sang for exposure.”

She said the album will also showcase her celebrated writing talent, and that she cannot wait for Mpumalanga and rest of the world to enjoy it. She said the album features local musicians and her latest single with KiDX, titled “Buyelekaya”.

A song that received great reception is “Bavulele”, and Nkomo previously told Mpumalanga News it will be one of the songs to be released prior the album. “It is a beautiful project and actually one of the best. I wanted to channel and showcase the Phumla I was before being in a music duo, PM², with Passion Master,” she said.
