TS Galaxy ready for clash against Chippa United at Mbombela Stadium

The Rockets and the Chilli Boys are set to battle it out in the 2024 Nedbank Cup quarter-finals this Sunday, April 14.

The 2019 Nedbank Cup champions, TS Galaxy, will be looking to rekindle the beast that slew the giants, Kaizer Chiefs, in the final of this competition six years ago to be crowned the champs.

The Rockets, as they are fondly known, have their aim firmly focused on the Chilli Boys, Chippa United, as they set out to battle it out in the 2024 instalment of the lucrative Nedbank Cup’s quarter-finals.

These two are set to meet at the Mbombela Stadium this Sunday, April 14.

Currently playing their best football, Galaxy have proven to be untouchable when playing at home, and will be looking to continue their good form this Sunday as their search for silverware continues.

Since the beginning of the year, Galaxy has not lost a match at home. They opened their winning streak at home on February 18 when they outsmarted Golden Arrows 3-1.

They went on to beat AmaZulu 2-1 on March 30, and just last Wednesday, April 3, they taught Royal AM some lessons in soccer when they beat them 3-0.

To put the cherry on the icing, they travelled to Tshwane on an impossible mission against the sixth-placed SuperSport United on Saturday April 6, and came back with all three points after recording a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

This famous victory has seen the Rockets moving up the ladder to occupy the fifth position with 34 points, four points above Kaizer Chiefs, who are sited on position eight with 30 points and some five points below the second-placed Stellenbosch.

On the road to the quarter-finals, the Rockets beat Golden Arrows 2-1 in round of 32 on February 23.
They went on to beat D’General 3-0 in the last 16 on March 17.

Their focus now is to reach the semi-finals, but they have to go through Chippa United, who are coming to Mbombela with some confidence after having beaten Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 during the DStv Premiership clash on Saturday April 6.

Even though Chippa United were never really tested on their road to the last eight of the Nedbank Cup, since they had to face NC Pros and Ravens, both playing in the lower divisions, they are not to be taken light as they are known unpredictable heartbreakers, just like when they faced the Chiefs over the past weekend.

Ronny Moyo, TS Galaxy’s spokesperson, said the team is hungry for success and wants to reach the final of this competition.

“This is one cup we know best, and we would like to play in the final again this year. But for the team to continue playing good football like we are currently seeing, we need all the support we can get from all soccer fans in the province. We need to fill up Mbombela Stadium this Sunday when we take on Chippa United and support our boys. We need to turn this stadium into our fortress, and we can only do this with our supporters,” said Moyo.

Kick-off for this clash is at 15:00.
