Suspect killed in a car accident after a robbery in Mbombela

It is alleged that three armed men entered the shop and fired shots demanding money.

MBOMBELA – Police investigations still continue on the armed robbery which recently happened at Hollywood Bets in the city. One of the three suspects was killed when their getaway car overturned along Hilltop Road to Barberton.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on the scene and the other suspect fled.

A blue box with R8 000 was handed over by terrified tenants before the suspects fled the scene in their Toyota Sedan towards the R40.

They were, however, involved in a accident before reaching their destination on the same day.

“The driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned on the road. One suspect was declared dead on the scene, one arrested and one fled,” said Capt Dawie Pretorius spokesperson for Mbombela police.

“The money and three firearms were recovered from the scene,” he added.
Mr Sibusiso Ngubane was arrested and charged with culpable homicide, possession of an firearm and an armed robbery.
