Woman arrested for assaulting her nine-year-old niece

MATSULU- Police have arrested a woman after she was accused of severely assaulting a nine-year-old girl.
The suspect, who is believed to be the aunt of the young girl, attacked the child with a stick after accusing her of coming home late. Pictures of the child’s wounds circulated on social media.

Matsulu police spokesperson, Ms Nkomozakhe Khumalo, said they got a tip-off from a concerned member of the community about the child’s situation. “She also urged members of the community to come out and report such kind of things,” she said.

the child is currently in the care of social workers. The aunt will appeared in court today, facing charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
