A note from the British Council South African Director:.
“The Defence Attaché at the British High Commission in Pretoria has just alerted us to a new initiative, developed by the Imperial War Museum in London, to mark the centenary of the start of the First World War in 2014. This may have particular resonance in South Africa because of the thousands from this country who were mobilized and who fought on the Western Front in Europe, in Palestine, and in the campaigns in East Africa and elsewhere across the continent.
The ‘First World War Centenary Partnership Programme’ is an expanding network of local, regional, national and international organisations interested in commemorating the centenary. Please take a look at www.1914.org/partners, which gives full details.
Best wishes
David Cordingley”
Here in the Lowveld our contribution to this project will centre mainly around the 100th anniversary of Delville Wood.
