Govan Mbeki boosts housing develpoment

This initiative was facilitated and championed by the Govan Mbeki Municipality as part of Sudor Coal Social Labour Plan Housing Project.

EMZINONI – The Govan Mbeki Municipality in conjunction with Sudor Coal Mining handed over 12 of 40 houses during the hand-over of houses to destitute and elderly citizen of Bethal in Ward 26 on September 26, 2013.

This initiative was facilitated and championed by the Govan Mbeki Municipality as part of Sudor Coal Social Labour Plan Housing Project compelling all mining companies in terms of Section 40 of the Mineral Resources Development Act of 2002 to promote the socio economic development of the surrounding communities through, promoting development of the community and Community development through infrastructure and human settlement development.

The Honorable Executive Mayor of Govan Mbeki Municipality extended  her heartfelt gratitude towards the completion of phase one of the project and the fact that people were growing tired of living in poor conditions.

In her key note address she said ‘We humbly extend our good gesture to Sudor Coal in building and donating these houses to destitute families in our community, without your contribution this day would have not been possible. You have changed the lives of the people for the better.

“Housing is a very important in the government objectives, because many people are still struggling to access decent homes, but today, the Sudor Coal mine made it possible, and these houses will go a long way in bringing confidence that this government is committed in changing the lives of the people.”

“We will also appeal to beneficiaries that as of today, these are your houses and you must take care of them. Love these houses and clean them regularly as they have now become part of your life.” Concluded the Executive Mayor

Mr. Adams of Sudor Coal also thanked the municipality for unlocking all barriers that existed on the project and thus making the project implementation possible through improved stakeholder relationship.

“We are gratefully for this municipality because it has afforded us an opportunity through our SLP initiatives to contribute positive endeavours in making an immense contribution to the lives of the ordinary citizens.”

The Executive Mayor, Cllr Lindi Masina, MMC’s and Cllrs proceeded and handed over 12 houses as phase one and She will later had over 18 houses.
