Buy a gift for a needy senior citizen

NELSPRUIT- What does a drip stand, face cream, legs and an ipad have in common?

Well, these are some of the responses you get when you ask the residents of Lowveld old age homes what they need or want for Christmas.

Caring is Daring is a campaign by the Guardian Angels to collect and hand out Christmans gifts to many of the needy and neglected senior citizens in our community. “What makes this campaign unique is that it allows both businesses and individuals to make donations, therefore not only large companies can make a difference to these people who are in such need of it,” says Guardian Angels national coordinator, Ms Marcel van Doorn.

So far, 54 items on the wish list have been ticked off. Rosie Mtsweni from Waterval Boven will receive her new size 36 dress, and Rina Oppermann her size seven shoes. These and many more items ranging from toasters to garden fertilizer and dog food will light up the festive season for these folks, thanks to the generosity of individual donors and companies.

So if you can add an extra tube of toothpaste or a tub of cream to your shopping basket this month, you are welcome to deliver this to the Guardian Angels offices. The campaign ends in October, so don’t hesitate to contact Guardian Angels now.
