Search for missing baby is on-going

Two Mozambican men, two locals and a 31-year-old woman were apprehended, however, the baby boy has not been found yet.

MBOMBELA – The Mpumalanga police have finally confirmed the arrest of five supects in connection with the theft of a newborn from Rob Ferreira Hospital last week.

Two Mozambican men, two locals and a 31-year-old woman were apprehended, however, the baby boy has not been found yet. “We believe the suspects will be in a position to tell us where the child is. Investigations into the matter still continue,” explained Brig Selvy Mohlala.
Messrs Ananias Ndzimba (27), Julius Sithole (25), Phineas Sono (35), Aaron Moyo Nyoni (20) and Ms Portia Ncube (31), were arrested on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Ndzimba and Sithole, both Mozambican citizens, were apprehended in the Nelspruit CBD on September 5, while Sono, Nyoni and Ncube were arrested in Mataffin the following day.

They appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on September 8 on charges of conspiracy to commit crime and kidnapping. They will be remanded in custody until their next court appearance on September 16.

The provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Thulani Ntobela has commended the work of the police members.
“I commend the high level of professionalism, determination and dedication displayed by our detectives in the province, particularly in how they handled this matter. I know that we have not yet recovered the baby, but have hope and trust that they will reunite the infant with his parents.

“The police support the campaign of no violence against women and children and therefore we cannot allow this to happen to this teenage mother,” he said.
