MBOMBELA – Award-winning gospel music sensation, Sipho “Big Fish” Makhabane is recuperating well in hospital.
Makhabane, who has been kept in ICU at a private hospital in Middelburg, uttered a few words for the first time this past weekend since his admission.
The “Big Fish”, as is affectionately known by his fans and within the gospel music circles, sustained severe injuries after he a recent car accident near Middelburg.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr Johan Sibiya, a well-known event-and-musician management guru, confirmed that Makhabane was responding well to treatment and would be with his family in no time.
“At this stage, all I can say is that he is making remarkable progress. I visited him on Sunday and he promised that he would get better,” said Sibiya.
“We would like to thank all his fans and friends and especially all the people of Mpumalanga and beyond for their continued support and prayers.
“We believe that their prayers have opened the doors and windows of heaven and we know and believe that he will soon be back doing God’s work,” Sibiya said.
He then took a swipe at those who had run to social-media platforms and announced that Makhabane had passed on.
“We are very disappointed about such inhuman and uninformed expressions that are circulating in social media.
Let me set the record straight here, our beloved brother and father, The Big Fish is still with us and we pray that God keeps and protects this gem,” said Sibiya.
This publication has since established that Makhabane was on his way to Potters House Christian Church in Bohleng in Delmas, where he was scheduled to perform, when the accident occurred.
Makhabane is known for grooming many local and national artists, including Goodman Mgibe, who is also deeply saddened by the accident.
