14-year-old raped after beauty contest

TONGA – A 25-year-old African male was arrested for raping a 14-year-old girl at Naas on Saturday, after a beauty contest event.

According to Tonga SAPS, the complainant, who is the mother of the victim, took her daughter to the beauty contest at Naas, left her there, and went back home.

“The woman says she went to look for her daughter after the contest, and could not find her.

After some time she received a call from the victim, informing her that she was raped by the suspect known to her. The matter was then reported to us. The victim is undergoing treatment and counselling at Tonga Hospital,” said Lt. Mzwandile Nyambi, Spokesperson for Tonga SAPS.

The suspect is arrested and will be appearing at the Tonga Magistrate court soon.
