Living the Madiba legacy
It only took a hero to save the world through the history of the myriad cultures converging during the pre-apartheid era. Nelson Mandela International Day was launched in recognition of Nelson Mandela’s birthday on July 18 for the next generation to take on leadership in addressing the world’s social injustices when he said, “it is in your hands now”.

July 18, 2015 marks the second year the world will celebrate Mandela Day without his presence since his death December 05, 2013.
Speaking to residents of Mbombela Local Municipality, Sizwe Nhlapho in his early 30’s was surprised its Mandela month. “When is Mandela Day?”.
“I totally forgot because people do this just for the 67 minutes and they don’t follow up on this entire people they help at the end,” he said.
Speaking to the youngsters and so called “Born Free”, Mpumalanga News realized that most do not see the importance of Mandela Day, as they grew up in an environment everything is provided within their families.
“Most of us we don’t take this day seriously because we grew up in good care from our parents who strive to give us all what we have today. We should help even in doing minor things like cleaning the house for our elders”, said Bongi Mashego who was born 1994.
She also explained government should commit themselves to objectives of Mandela Day special to everyone and everyday.
She added that it is a special day for the whole Nation to do what is best for someone who needs that attention. I will be celebrating my Mandela Day by going to clean at Pienaar care center.
