Eight years of broadcasting celebrated

Nkomazi FM recently celebrated eight years of broadcasting.

This local community radio station has grown from strength to strength and has for the past couple of years kept its listeners entertained, informed and up to date with current affairs.

It was established through the Icasa broadcasting service for the whole local municipality of Nkomazi and other parts of Mpumalanga.

The station manager, Makhosi Zulu, said as they celebrate their eighth anniversary, their focus is centred around Connect Systems Inc (CSI).

“The past eight years have been nothing short of the best. We have made it to the top 10 of the most listened to local radio stations in the country and the station has produced talent from Nkomazi who continue to shine their light on the national stage. Names such as Gcina Maseko and Mvuselelo are shining their light at the SABC Swati evening bulletin.”

“Our CSI programmes will revolve coaching, training and mentoring local talent.

“On our actual birthday, we had the privilege to celebrate with two schools, Bhambatha Primary School and Mehlobovu Secondary School. We did it by donating a hundred pairs of school shoes, with each school receiving 50.” Zulu said the radio station has over the past years received support from various stakeholders, and currently still is.

“None of this would have been possible had it not been for our sponsors. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Mondlane of Block B, Ben Mdhluli and his wife Nelly from Khayalethu Park and Lodge, Zakhele Matsane from Ebukhosini Resort, Mvuleni Services and Joe Ngomane and his wife, Zandy, for their generous contribution towards this project.

This is only the beginning of our vigorous CSI projects intended for this year. We also took to Mbuzini to do an outside broadcast with Vodacom where the residents received Android smartphones at no cost, courtesy of the cellular network.

This forms part of their continued efforts to reduce the digital divide, in partnership with Google. We have also partnered with Vodacom in the spirit of giving back, where our listeners will win prizes such as tablets and cellphones.” He concluded by saying that he appreciated the support the station receives from the community and stakeholders.
