Mpumalanga energy summit under way in eMalahleni
The energy summit emanates from the State of the Province Address delivered in February.
The Mpumalanga government is currently hosting a two-day energy summit aimed at positioning the province as the main point of focus for green economy activities in the country. The event started today, May 24, and ends tomorrow, and is taking place at The Ridge Hotel, eMalahleni.
The purpose for the summit is to provide opportunities and processes for green economy issues and act as a conduit for providing feedback to the provincial government.

It is further intended to create pathways for a just transition, to build provincial consensus on green economy path as an innovative way towards sustainable consumption and production patterns.
The summit will help create an ecosystem supportive of the green economy to facilitate the creation of new job opportunities and accelerating growth.
It will provide a multi-stakeholder platform, panel discussions and breakaways to discuss and agree on key interventions along the relevant sector value chains to drive accelerated economic growth and job creation in Mpumalanga.

Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane is hosting the panel of expect speakers who will be covering relevant green economic sectors and focusing on energy transition.

“It is a pleasure for me to officially open this inaugural Mpumalanga Energy Summit. On behalf of the Mpumalanga provincial government, I wish to express gratitude to the organisers for making this a summit a reality.
“For us, the success of this summit will also lie in the extent to which its deliberations lay a foundation for a shared perspective on how we can support individuals and communities as we move towards a low-carbon, ecologically friendly and socially sustainable economy or what is now commonly referred to as the ‘just transition’.”
