TS Galaxy makes it five wins in a row at Mbombela Stadium

TS Galaxy triumphed over Royal AM at Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday April 3, their fifth consecutive win on home soil. The Rockets moved up into the top half of the table and a trip to Pretoria to face SuperSport United awaits them this weekend.

Courtesy of their 3-0 win over Royal AM at Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday April 3, TS Galaxy are now unbeaten at home since their loss to Super Sport United on November 1, 2023.

The Rockets have now won their last five matches on home soil, which has earned them the second-best record at home in the DStv Premiership this season, behind only log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Of the 11 matches they’ve played at Mbombela Stadium this season TS Galaxy have won eight, drawn two and only lost one.

They have also only conceded five goals at home all season, the best defensive record at home, again after Mamelodi Sundowns who’ve only conceded four goals thus far.

In the last five matches at Mbombela Stadium TS Galaxy have only conceded one goal, in their match against Golden Arrows on February 18. SuperSport United remain the only team to score multiple goals against The Rockets at home this season.

Wednesday’s triumph over Royal AM at Mbombela Stadium was largely a boring affair and for the first 50 minutes of the game neither side showed any significant threat. It was only in the 55th minute when Samir Nurkovic broke the deadlock through a snap shot with his weak foot that things seemed to liven up a little.

TS Galaxy had initially started the match in a traditional 4-4-2 formation, but in the second half manager, Sead Ramovic, employed different tactics to draw the best out of his players. The Rockets constantly changed formation in the second period, shifting between a 3-2-3-2 and 4-1-3-2 set-up throughout the half.

This combined with perfectly timed substitutions is what ultimately gave TS Galaxy the edge in the encounter.
Following Nurkovic’s goal, Lehlogonolo Mojela doubled their lead with a great finish at the end of a Samukelo Kabini cross in the 84th minute.

The icing on the cake came courtesy of a moment of brilliance from Kamogelo Sebelebele who muscled a shot past Royal AM goalkeeper, Hugo Nyame, after a great individual run.

This earned TS Galaxy a 3-0 win which lifts them into the top half of the table, only three points off a potential top four spot. It is also their ninth win of the season, ensuring that this season is their joint-most successful season in the DStv Premiership so far.

Their next challenge comes on Saturday April 6 against a struggling SuperSport United outfit that hasn’t won in the DStv Premiership since December.

This run of six games without a win includes five draws and a loss. In to all competitions, SuperSport United have won only two matches (both in the Nedbank Cup) since their win over Orland Pirates on December 23, 2023.

This will give TS Galaxy a fair amount of hope, considering they have third-worst record on the road in the DStv Premiership this season. The Rockets have only won one of their nine matches away from home, with two draws and six losses to their name. Only Richards Bay and Cape Town Spurs have worse away records this season.

A win in Saturday’s match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium will boost The Rockets’ hopes of a top four finish and strengthen their position in the top eight, but they’ll need to overcome their away jitters. A return to winning ways for Matsatsantsa should move them into the top four if Pirates and Sekhukhune United both go winless this weekend.
