Police investigate two double murders in Mpumalanga
The Mpumalanga police acting commissioner assured that investigators are probing both incidents.
The Mpumalanga police are investigating two separate double murders that were reported over the weekend of October 20.
Two bodies of two women with gunshot wounds were discovered inside a white BMW on the N4 the near Arnot off-ramp.
According to the Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhlulu, one of the women was identified as Ayanda Mayibongwe Maphalala and the other victim is yet to be identified.
“The vehicle’s registration number plates had been removed, though w later found them at the scene. This is one of the aspects that will form part of the probe to get reasons behind the removal thereof. Police are investigating two counts of murder and at this stage,” he said.
In a separate incident, the police responded to a public complaint regarding two men caught in possession of suspected stolen properties in eMmanyeveni in KaBokweni.
“The two men were found lying motionless, with gunshot wounds. No one was available to give account on what has transpired. The families of the deceased are said to have attended the scene as well.”
Mdhluli said no arrests have been made in connection with these cases.

However, the Mpumalanga police acting commissioner, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, has called for public calm as a team of investigating experts has been assigned to diligently probing these murders.
“The priority is to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure that justice is served for the victims and their families. We also appeal for calm and encourage the public to allow the investigation teams the space to conduct thorough probe without any interference. Individuals who have pertinent details related to the cases need to co-operate with us to help bring closure to these tragic events,” Mkhwanazi said.
