Masoyi beauty queen aims for bigger stage

This pageant model says she wants to go the extra mile to find solutions to issues that affect society.

A model and netball player is excited to be taking part in a national pageant, Miss Qhawekazi South Africa, in which she aims to showcase the unique blend of her skills and passion while she represents Mpumalanga.

Angela Maluka (20) is a finalist in this competition. She said she wants to go the extra mile in being the change by finding solutions for issues that affect society.

She is driven by the purpose of advocating against destitution and empowering marginalised communities. “I have witnessed the devastating impact of poverty and inequality in my community and I am committed to using my platform to amplify the voices of those often overlooked,” Maluka said.

The young beauty queen started modelling in primary school when she won her first title, Miss Valentine. She said she enjoyed it and took time to study the requirements of modelling to pursue more pageants.

“I bagged my first official crown as Miss Precious Gem 2022 and I did not stop there, but continued to aim high and won Miss Teen Mpumalanga 2023. Being crowned a provincial queen was my biggest win as the competition was an exciting opportunity which kept my passion blazing. Last year I was the runner-up in Miss Fresher University of Limpopo,” Maluka said.

She is also a runway and fashion model and took part in the South Africa Namibia Fashion Week in Mbombela, the Game Lifestyle Awards in 2023, and Ignite Africa Fest in 2024.

“I am open to exploring partnerships with designers who push boundaries and challenge conventional fashion norms,” she said.

Maluka is one focus- and education-driven youngster currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Sciences at the University of Limpopo.

“The reason why I chose this qualification is because I am fascinated by the natural world and the fundamental laws of physics and chemistry that make up the world. With a strong curiosity about how things work, I enjoy problem-solving and figuring out the underlying principles of physical phenomena,” Maluka said.
