Laying the foundation for women in construction

More than 80 women gathered to empower one another in building a better future.

More than 80 women attended the Mpumalanga Queens in Construction seminar at the South African Alliance Church in Matsafeni on Thursday, July 3. The aim of the event was to encourage young women to join the construction sector, and inform them about the training and skills offered by Basadi Civil Youth Development.

According to the project co-ordinator, Nolwazi Shongwe, they want to foster a culture of creative business thinking and risk-taking in women. The event was attended by women who are active, or interested in the constructions industry.

Shongwe shared her testimony of growth in the field and talked of her experiences working with other women in the sector. “I am inspired because young women are present and we have approached the founder of a construction company to mentor us,” said Shongwe.

Nomshado Madonsela, the founder of Basadi Civil Construction, shared her journey – from her humble beginnings in the province to becoming a successful entrepreneur in the construction trade. She said it is important to expand to other areas of business and spoke about her venture into cleaning products and services.

The event demonstrated the power of collaboration and mentorship in driving growth and development among young women in construction.
