The victim impact statement from the victim's daughter, proved financial, psychological and emotional trauma she suffered from her mother's death.
A 35-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday, July 23, for the brutal murder of his 31-year-old girlfriend. The Mpumalanga Division of the High Court, sitting in Breyten, handed down the judgment to the accused, who pleaded guilty to killing of his girlfriend on June 6, 2024.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) provincial spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, the accused suspected his girlfriend of having an affair after she received a phone call from an unknown person, which led to a physical altercation in which he stabbed her in the neck.
“The State advocate, Kedibone Mthimkhulu, argued that the accused’s plea was a mitigating factor, but emphasised the brutality of the crime, which was carried out in the presence of minors. The court considered the post-mortem report and a photo album depicting the crime scene,” Nyuswa said.
