Education department collaborates with community to revamp Mphalali Secondary School

Mphalali Secondary School received a facelift with tree planting, smart food gardening and renovations from the Rhandza Xikolo Xa Wena campaign.

The MEC for education, Lindi Masina has commended the collaboration between the Department of Education and Department of Agriculture (Dardlea), Rural Development, Land and Environment Affairs in the Rhandza Xikolo Xa Wena campaign an initiative in which the community and learners work together to keep their schools clean and well-maintained.

This was during an event that took place at Mphalali Secondary School in Kwaggafontein B Thursday, July 31.

According to Masina these efforts will not only benefit the school but also the entire community. Trees were planted and a food garden was established in a smart agriculture box. Additionally, broken window panes were replaced and walls, roofs and windows window frames were painted.

“The school obtained 82% matric pass rate last year and I am hoping for 90% this year. I call on the locals to protect the school from vandalism and criminality, and encourage them to volunteer their time for regular clean-ups to ensure a healthy learning environment,” said Masina.

MRTT, Correctional Services, SAPSThembisile Hani Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Lesetja Jacob Dikgale and the local Traditional Authority were some of the stakeholders who played major roles in the success of the campaign at the school.
