Grannies and young talent celebrated in KaBokweni

More than 70 grannies received blankets, while some up-and-coming artists were awarded record deals worth R10 000 each.

More than 70 grannies were gifted with blankets and a day of recognition at Nkohlakalo Community Hall on Saturday, October 18, thanks to SSS Records in partnership with Thandeka Gee Productions.

The event was part of their fourth annual community outreach initiative.

According to the organiser, Nondumiso Nkambule, the outreach aims to ensure that older members of the community are recognised and respected.

By hosting them and giving them blankets, the organisers hope to show appreciation and remind the public of the vulnerability of older residents, urging people to treat them with love and respect.

The organisers also provided a platform for young local artists to showcase their talents.

Nkambule said they hosted a music competition to give township and rural artists an opportunity to rise up in the music industry without having to move to big cities.

The competition offered a recording deal worth R10 000 for the winner, with the organisers pledging ongoing support until the artist gains recognition.
