Mpumalanga Department of Health commemorates healthcare workers

Various healthcare workers and stakeholders attended the event to celebrate the day.

Healthcare Sunday was commemorated at Church on the Hill on October 18. The Mpumalanga Department of Health (DoH), in partnership with the Christian Healthcare Alliance of South Africa and the South African Community of Faith-Based Practitioners, joined congregants for the occasion.

This national observance, held annually on Saint Luke’s Day, honours healthcare workers – including doctors, nurses, caregivers, and emergency personnel – for their selfless service and unwavering commitment to improving community health and well-being.

In her address, Maria Mahlalela, representing the DoH, expressed gratitude to healthcare professionals for their dedication, compassion and resilience, especially in challenging circumstances.

The event highlighted that healthcare is both a calling and an act of service, inspired by Christian values of love, compassion and faith.

“The department reaffirms its support for faith-based partnerships that promote holistic care and strengthen the moral and spiritual well-being of healthcare workers,” Mahlalela said.
