Traffic officers allegedly assault CPDA driver on N4 near Lebombo border

Social media video sparks safety concerns among truckers travelling into Mozambique.

A recent video circulating on social media has sparked serious concern among truck drivers travelling on the N4 to enter Mozambique via the Lebombo border.

In the video, a CPDA driver leaves his parked truck beside the road when a group of traffic officers approaches and begins to assault him. It remains unclear what caused the altercation. Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison spokesperson Moeti Mmusi has confirmed that officials are investigating the incident.

​Company condemns attack

​In a statement, CPDA condemned the incident. “CPDA is aware of the incident in which one of our driver trainers was assaulted. We condemn these actions in the strongest possible terms and are providing all possible assistance and support to our employee. All legal processes will unfold in due course.”

​Department probe targets border delays

​”We strongly condemn such behaviour from law enforcement officials who are supposed to uphold the law,” said Mmusi. He added that the department will also look into the problems at the border and why truck drivers are forced to wait for long periods before entering.
