Social Media platforms can draw predators into your life

Social media can be a good way to communicate with people who have similar interests or goals. One can easily connect with new people and even "meet" them as well.

Social media can be a good way to communicate with people who have similar interests or goals. One can easily connect with new people and even “meet” them as well.

Thanks to social media platforms, being shy is nothing to fear! On Facebook, “poking” is like a handshake, you can easily make new friends while keeping up with the old ones.

These platforms can also keep you updated on what’s going on in your neighborhood or town and you can advertise for different groups. If used correctly Facebook and these other platforms can be a great way to advertise.

It is also easy to create a positive self-image through such platforms, just as much as it is easy for one to tarnish their reputation. You can choose to have a totally separate life. One doesn’t necessarily have to share the bad qualities about themselves, should they wish not to.

How you set up your profile gives an indication of how much you care for your reputation and about what others think of you.
But whatever you do on your social media sites, keep in mind that social networks are a big part of everyone’s lives.

Dangers of Social Networking

Most social networks have an age limit, this prevents underage users from engaging in such. However, it is way too easy for one to manipulate their way into the system because there’s not method used to verify such.

You should NEVER enter ANY personal data (i.e. location, address, and school, even full name!) because it then becomes very easy for a predator to pretend to be the same age as you and to like the same things, just as it for you to get around the age limitations.

There are tons of online scams that try to trick you into giving away your personal information.

Culprits can use that information for potential crime, like theft or fraud. Some websites can easily be disguised to make themselves look like your favorite social network, just so they can steal your password.

When such hackers get hold of your password, they can destroy your profile, send out spam and viruses, and do incredible amounts of damage to your online reputation.

Log in sites never ask you to send them your password. If you get a message / email asking that you send them your password, never reply and you forward the message/email to the network’s support or privacy department.

Anyone can be able to see what you are doing on your social networking site. People on Facebook might tag a picture of you or tell about something you did, but if it is something bad, it can go as far as costing you your job.
