The Rockets defeat Chippa in Carling Cup
TS Galaxy took on Chippa United at Mbombela Stadium and earned their place in the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup.
TS Galaxy have secured its place in the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup following their 1-0 win against Chippa United at Mbombela Stadium on October 20.
The game went to extra time as both teams struggled to score a goal in the normal 90 minutes of play. The match had ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
Dženan Zajmovic, the newly signed Bosnian attacker, scored the game’s only goal in extra time to send the Rockets to the last eight of the competition.
Zajmovic went from hero to villain as he was dismissed for a reckless challenge in the 114th minute. Sepana Letsoalo was also given his marching orders for an off-the-ball incident.
The Rockets held on for a tough win despite being reduced to nine men. Galaxy’s rising youngster, Puso Dithejane, won the well-deserved man of the match award.
Meanwhile, the PSL confirmed the 2024/25 Carling Knockout’s last eight draw following the conclusion of a round of 16 games on Sunday. The draw was conducted immediately after Richards Bay defeated Sekhukhune United 1-0.
TS Galaxy will welcome Magesi, who caused a shock in the last 16 when they beat Orlando Pirates 3-2 away from home at Orlando Stadium. Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns will again lock horns. Defending champions Stellenbosch FC will come up against Marumo Gallants, while Cape Town City FC will travel to Richards Bay for their quarter-final clash after they demolished the hapless Royal AM 3-0 on October 19.
The PSL will confirm the date and venues for these fixtures in due course.
