Concern about incompetent drivers
Outcry on the number of road accidents on roads in the province .
We’ve heard the outcry on the number of road accidents on roads, but they keep on increasing by the day. One wonders
whatever makes it worse by the day.
The one problem I’ve realised, is intolerance by drivers on the roads as you find a lot of them driving at high
speed in closed areas, which, according to roads regulations, are supposed to be driving at 60 kilometres per hour.
I think we need more regulations to been forced by the traffic officers on our roads. More speed traps need to be set up on our roads in order to keep close guard on unruly drivers.
Secondly, some drivers are just half-baked drivers, having obtained their drivers licenses fraudulently. What would one expect from someone who never went through the processes of obtaining their licenses to drive efficiently on the roads?
In the process, they buy these powerful and expensive vehicles, which they cannot even drive well. You sometimes see them struggling to control them although they
have power steering wheels.
Thirdly, if only there could be more traffic officials visibility on the roads, both in urban and rural areas, then we can
see a reduction of roads accidents on the roads. Vehicle owners, too, must cease this tendency of driving unroadworthy vehicles on the roads, like worn tyres and so forth.
How would you control an unroadworthy vehicle in times of
emergencies?
Fourthly, I think we should enforce road safety in communities
than directing it only on school children as they are not drivers.
Classes should be conducted in all communities and even the political rallies should
address road safety and responsibility on our roads, than merely campaigning for votes.
At the end of the day, by the time we reach the elections, we shall have decreased our numbers by large margins.
Let’s hold each others’ hands and
ensure that we spare lives through responsible driving.
