Sports complex in a bad state

Young people's talent is affected as a result of non-fixing of the local sports complex for the past four years

There is a lack of sports facilities in Umjindi Township, Barberton after they were vandalised four years ago.
For four years the City of Mbombela Local municipality has turned a blind eye in upgrading the sports complex.The facilities are in a dismissal state which includes basketball courts, netball courts and volleyball courts.

In 2014, former mayor of (Umjindi local municipality) Mr Lazarus Mashaba made a commitment to upgrade the complex, but it never happened until he reached the end of his term of office.

The head of technical committee of Umjindi Local Football Association say: “There are a lot of young people who are talented in different sporting codes, but they are no longer active because the facilities are not user-friendly. We are worried that they will end up doing bad things in the community and their talent will be a waste.”

Efforts to get hold of the spokesperson of the municipality, Mr Joseph Ngala were fruitless as he was not answering his phone
