No obstacle too big or too small for endurance athlete

Competing in your first Herd Games in the middle of the winter is not everyone’s cup of tea. The cold weather did not deter Alicia Bullen from Badfontein outside Lydenburg, however.

She won the individual beginner division and shared third place overall. The Herd Games were part of the Arnold Classic Sport Festival 2022 in Johannesburg, from Friday to Sunday June 3 to 5.

“It was a weekend packed with events kicking off on the icy field for early morning starts, getting a sweat on in the sunny middays and finishing with chilly evenings. The athletes were tested with odd objects, lifting complexes, short spicy events, and longer endurance events to the finals. I am training now and focusing to qualify for the South African Cross Country Championships later this year. This will be very special as my mother, Estelle, is also aiming to qualify in her age category,” said Alicia.

The Arnold Classic was initiated by renowned movie star and bodybuilding legend, Arnold Schwarzenegger, as a multisport festival.
