PODCAST: Chatting with the cast of Mzansi Magic’s new series ‘Kokota’

Learn about the characters from the new Mzansi Magic series "Kokota" as they share their stories in our studio.


Mzansi Magic, the channel known for blockbuster entertainment, has brought a new show called Kokota to our TV screens.

This show, set in Pretoria and featuring characters who speak in a language called “Spitori,” started airing on 10 September.

You can catch it every Sunday at 8 pm on Mzansi Magic during the prime-time slot.

In the first episode of the Slaying With Asa Podcast, we had a special conversation with three members of the Kokota cast.

Obakeng Kgwedi, Koketso Motaung, and Leera Mthethwa joined us in our studio to share insights about their experiences and their journeys on the show.

About ‘Kokota’

The show is about Tshepang, who is a preacher’s son and is played by Thato Dithebe – a child star from Yo.TV. Tshepang loves music, especially Amapiano, even though his parents and the church think it’s not right.

His brother Tshepo, played by Thabang Lefoa from The Wife, is trying to become a famous star and has to face the challenges of the music industry.

In the cast of Kokota, you will also see actors such as Molefi Monaisa from a drama called Dora’s Peace, Bathabile Mashigo from The Queen, and the experienced soapies actor, Noel Baloyi.

Amapiano take center stage in ‘Kokota’

Based on the show’s theme, If you want, you have the freedom to give the show your own name, such as “Kokota Piano”. So, if you like Amapiano music, then you will probably enjoy this show.

It features some dope Amapiano tunes in its 30-minute episodes.

Message behind the show

Kokota is the tale of young South Africans – those who have the courage to dream bigger than their current situations and the determination to chase those dreams, despite the obstacles they encounter.

It is a story young viewers can connect with on a personal level as it focuses on the youth and explores one of Africa’s most influential subcultures.
