WATCH: Mom-to-be surprised with drive-by baby shower

Family and friends of a Belfort mom-to-be were determined to throw her a baby shower and lift her spirits with a surprise drive-by baby shower.

Celeste Moodley (35), who is due to give birth to her second child, a baby boy, this week, had been feeling down after being informed by St Anne’s Hospital that her husband will not be able to be with her during her scheduled c-section.

Her elder sister, Alethea Rampersad, said she was not going to let her feel depressed.

“We had a gender reveal party in February for her and her baby shower was planned for April 26. However, with the lockdown and social distancing, we cancelled it. Last Wednesday, I made an invitation and created a WhatsApp group with family and friends to surprise my sister,” said Rampersad.

According to Rampersad, her brother-in-law was tasked with getting his wife outside for her surprise drive-by baby shower.

“He told her that he was feeling cold and that they both should go outside and get some sun. I met family and friends who were in their cars at the bottom of Ganges Road on Sunday at 3pm and drove up in convoy with gifts. We hooted and cheered for Celeste. It was priceless to see her tears of joy. She was truly surprised and excited,” said Rampersad.

Moodley said it was a beautiful surprise. “I was really not expecting it. In the midst of this pandemic, my family still managed to organise a baby shower and make it so unique and special. I am truly blessed to have such wonderful people in my life. I am looking forward to the birth of my baby boy. I have so many mixed emotions; I am happy, anxious and excited. We can’t wait to meet him,” she said.

Rampersad and her family wished her sister well on the upcoming birth.

“Although no family can be there, my sister and my nephew will be in our thoughts and prayers. We can’t wait to meet the newest member of our family.”
