3 killed, 13 others injured in head-on collision in Limpopo

Reckless driving has been noted as a possible cause of the incident.

The Transport and Community Safety MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, has called on motorists to obey the rules of the road, as more accidents have been noted in recent weeks.

Lerule-Ramakhanya is worried about the increasing number of fatal crashes, according to a statement by Departmental Spokesperson, Mike Maringa, following an incident on the R524 near Tshakuma in the Vhembe district.

“Three people have died and 13 were injured in a head-on crash between a sedan and a loading van. Reckless and negligent driving is cited as a possible cause of the accident, and it is alleged that one of the drivers was driving recklessly facing the oncoming traffic. Three people were certified dead on the scene, of which two were in the sedan and the third victim was travelling in the bakkie,” Maringa explained.

He added that one person was rushed to Tshilidzini Hospital in a critical condition while 12 others escaped with minor injuries.
