Huge setback for Blue Bulls due to several Covid-19 positive players

The Carling Currie Cup fourth round match between Griquas and the Blue Bulls, scheduled for Tafel Lager Park in Kimberley on Saturday afternoon, has been cancelled in line with Covid-19 protocols.

The decision was taken on Thursday after players and management from the Bulls returned positive tests for Covid-19 this week.

As a result of the cancellation of the match, the encounter will be declared a draw and the teams will each receive two log points.

With this development, the fate of the Bulls, who are currently only five points ahead of the Sharks on the log – but have played one game more than the Durbanites – is no longer just in their own hands. Jake White and his men will now have to hope that the Sharks get stuck in at least one of their remaining four games. If that happens, the Pretorians will still be able to finish first on the log and thus qualify for a home semi-final and possibly a home final as well.

The other two Carling Currie Cup matches scheduled for this weekend between the Pumas and Cheetahs in Nelspruit on Friday, and the Lions v the Sharks in Johannesburg on Saturday are unaffected.
