Female paramedic killed during shooting in Estcourt

A 40-year-old female paramedic was killed during a shooting in Mimosadale, Estcourt during the early hours of this morning (October 4).

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan, a shooting had taken place at a home in the area. A person that was shot at managed to escape uninjured and flee.

“An ambulance was passing the area that the shooting took place in. The alleged perpetrators had the misconception that the person they were trying to shoot was injured and inside the vehicle. They opened fire on the ambulance,” explained W/O Khan.

The female paramedic, who was the passenger, was fatally wounded on scene and the male driver was shot in the back and taken to hospital.

“A stray bullet also grazed an 18-year-old in a nearby home,” added W/O Khan.

No arrests have been made and Estcourt police are investigating one case of murder and four counts of attempted murder.
