WATCH: Fire damages conveyor belt at Port of Richards Bay

Transnet said risk and technical teams are on site to assess the extent of the damage

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of a fire that damaged a conveyor belt at the Port of Richards Bay last night (October 6).

The fire broke out at the terminal around 22:30 and was extinguished in the early hours of this morning.

According to Transnet who issued a short statement earlier today, risk and technical teams are on site to assess the extent of the damage, and the immediate operational impact.

“No injuries have been reported, and Transnet is engaging with all affected parties at the port,” said Transnet spokesperson Ayanda Shezi.
