Former ANC councillor charged with two counts of murder

The former ANC councillor, Lifa Blessing Nkosi, who is charged with two counts of murder, will appear in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Thursday, November 25.

BARBERTON – Nkosi was arrested on Tuesday, November 16, by members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation based in Mbombela, the Provincial Tracking Team, Barberton Detective Services and the Flying Squad.

According to the Hawks’ provincial spokesperson, Capt Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, the team followed on information about the whereabouts of a wanted suspect linked to the murder of an off-duty police officer, Sgt Nkosinathi Lucky Ngwenya of the Nelspruit Police Station and his friend, Jaftha Mnisi.

The incident happened at Zanini Tarven in Barberton a few weeks ago when it was brought to the attention of the authorities.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the SAPS members and paramedics discovered two bodies of males with multiple gunshot wounds. A case with two counts of murder was opened and the investigations linked the suspect with the case, hence the arrest,” said Sekgotodi in a statement.

Nkosi briefly made an appearance at the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, November 17, where he was remanded in custody. Nkosi will appear tomorrow for appointment of an attorney and formal bail application
