‘Lawyer’ appears in Bethal Court on charges of fraud

The case was postponed to Friday, December 24.

Mr Themba Doctor Nkwinyika appeared in the Bethal Magistrate Court on Monday, December 20 on charges of fraud.

Mr Nkwindyika was arrested at the court on Friday, December 17 after he failed to provide the necessary documentation to appear in Bethal Court as an attorney.

It is suspected that Mr Nkwinyika pretended to be an attorney, although it has not been confirmed yet if he in fact has a law degree.

He went to Bethal Court on Friday and told staff at court that he was there to represent a woman who allegedly stole something.

The staff at court suspected something was amiss when Mr Nkwinyika acted in a certain manner and asked for his papers to be allowed to appear in court as a lawyer.

He failed to provide these papers and first said it was in his vehicle outside .

He later said his wife left with his papers.

He was told to ask his wife to send a photo of his papers, but then he wanted to withdraw from the case.

Mr Nkwindyika was instructed to get his gown and withdraw from the case officially by saying it in court. He and then he disappeared.

The police patrolled the area around Bethal and found him hitchhiking outside of Bethal.

They picked him up and took him back to court where he was arrested for fraud.

His case was postponed to Friday, December 24 for the court to determine whether he has previous convictions against him.
