Vanderbijlpark two-bakkie collision leaves seven dead, two injured

Six men and a women aged between 14 and 40 succumbed to their injuries.

VANDERBIJLPARK – Seven people were killed and two others injured when two bakkies collided on the R553 in Vanderbijlpark.

ER24 and other services arrived at the scene shortly after 03:00 Saturday morning to find the two wrecked vehicles in the middle of the road.

On closer inspection, medics found the bodies of six men and a woman, aged between 14 and 30, lying on the back of the bakkie as well as in front of the vehicle. Unfortunately, all seven people had already succumbed to their injuries and were later declared dead.

A male passenger one bakkie and the male driver of the other bakkie were assessed and found to have sustained serious injuries.

The patients were treated and transported by other services to nearby hospitals for further care. The details surrounding this incident are unknown, but local authorities were at the scene for further investigations.
