Limpopo Hawks arrest foreign national woman for illicit cigarette trade

Illicit cigarettes to the value of R43 684 were confiscated.

LIMPOPO – A 30-year-old woman is expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court today (January 24), for charges related to dealing in illicit cigarettes and contravening the Immigration Act 13 of 2002.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Limpopo spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said she was arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit on Friday (January 21).

“The Hawks received intelligence about illicit cigarettes that were allegedly sold at a certain house in Malale village outside the Pafuri Border. A multi-disciplinary operation comprising of the Hawks, crime intelligence and the South African National Defence Force was conducted and boxes containing illicit cigarettes, with an estimated street value of R43 684, were found in the house and seized,” he explained.

Maluleke said the Hawks are still searching for other possible suspects.
